Cryotherapy is a treatment technique where part of the patient’s tissue is frozen, causing cells to die and involves:

  • Very cold nitrogen or argon gas is then passed through the needles, (this is similar to HIFU)
  • The locally applied gas freezes the prostate and destroys cancer cells.
  • Warm liquid is also passed through a catheter in the penis to stop the urethra from freezing.
